at the end of 1800 to crown the romantic love between the Marquis Silvio della Valle di Casanova, poet and musician, and Sophie Browne, painter, who wanted to build here "the garden of dreams".
Unfortunately, the main villa was acquired by the Italian State in the 60s and is now inaccessible, hosting only bureaucratic offices.
Only the waterfront portion of the park with the old private chapel of the villa, overlooking the lake, remained private and was transformed into a modern house of great charm and originality. The garden has been restored recently, after decades of neglect and now is a small botanical garden, inspired by the atmosphere of the adjoining Gardens of Villa Taranto, the greatest Italian Bothanical gardens, created by Neil Mc Eacharn in the 1930s.
Living in villa San Remigio means embracing the lake from all the windows; walking through a park full of fragrant trees and flowers, which runs for 300 yards on the lake shore; bathing and sunbathing on the private beach; relaxing in the Finnish sauna and hot jacuzzi outdoor or in the turkish bath indoor; breathing the pure air of Villa Taranto and Villa San Remigio parks, over 30 hectares of greenery that surround the property. These parks, the lake and the Alps are the only things in sight from the house.
You can enjoy a lunch in one of the three outdoor picnic areas, veritable open-air dining rooms; you can read a book or listen to music on the shore of the lake, or by the water lily pond sitting on the large circular stone seat where the Marquise Sophie loved to spend her time in contemplation of the lake.
You can rent for short tourist stays our lakefront property, fully equiped and serviced by our gardener and housemaid; your holiday will be much more comfortable, unique and fascinating than in the best luxury hotel.
